Disney isn't the only studio experimenting with different releases in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Warner Bros.' entire 2021 slate will debut on HBO Max and in theaters on the same day. Meanwhile, Universal and Paramount have struck deals with movie theater chains for shorter theatrical windows that allow the studios to place features on streaming earlier than in previous years. On Thursday, the studio said the film, which stars Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, will premiere in theaters and on Disney+ premier access on July 30.

After the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise generated five feature films and billions at the box office, Disney were undoubtedly hoping for a sequel to the similarly theme-parked inspired Jungle Cruise. There is an offshoot chance that Jungle Cruise will be the next Pirate of the Caribbean. Supposedly, only a stand-alone film, these two Disney movies' success has led them to add more sequels to their franchise. One of the producers of Jungle Cruise 2 sat down for an exclusive interview with Screenrant recently.
As the "The Hollywood Reporter" notes, Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt are set to reprise their roles as Frank Wolff and Dr. Lily Houghton, respectively, for the next jungle-faring adventure. While his status for the sequel remains unconfirmed, British comedian Jack Whitehall could return as MacGregor, Lily's younger brother who — often against his better judgment — helps his sibling on her dangerous quests. Whitehall is a big name in the U.K, but "Jungle Cruise 2" is an ideal vehicle for continuing to solidify his presence in Hollywood.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jungle Cruise has raked in over $100 million since its theatrical premiere last month, so it's no surprise to hear Disney is keen on making a sequel. Returning alongside Johnson and Blunt are director Jaume Collet-Serra and screenwriter Michael Green, as well as a number of producers. Seriously, Dwayne Johnson can do no wrong and even has a high approval rate, should he ever run for president (this is not a joke). Also, The Rock is basically in any and all Jungle movies, so it was no surprise that Jungle Cruise fit his bill, would do well and is now green-lit for a sequel.

It seems that Collet-Sera has actually gotten along with Dwayne Johnson quite well, as he’s also directing the upcoming DC film, Black Adam, in which Dwayne Johnson also stars. There’s no word on Jack Whitehall returning as Lily’s brother, MacGregor, but he did express excitement for the sequel in a tweet, so we’re guessing that this may be a good sign. "Until we are towards the end of the pandemic and seating capacity gets back to 100% and people are fully comfortable returning to theatres we will likely see Disney have a simultaneous window."

Jaume Collet-Sera is a director with a plethora of intriguing films in his catalogue, including the horror films House of Wax, Orphan, and The Shallows. He’s also been the director of some of the best Liam Neesen movies, such as Unknown, Non-Stop, Run All Night, and The Commuter. I found Johnson and Blunt’s chemistry very enjoyable in the adventure film and they worked well off of each other, so hearing that they’re going to be coming back together makes this fan very happy.
